During the operation, the K-9 unit was successful in detecting drugs on a student, although the nature and quantity of the substance were not disclosed.
According to a letter from the prosecutor’s office, school administrations can request drug searches in classrooms if they have concrete suspicions.

However, the Ministry of Education clarified that there are no systematic controls in schools and that this type of police search is not a regular occurrence in high schools.

What is the protocol?

RTL has obtained details on the general procedure and the approach taken by the prosecutor’s office in such cases.

When there is concrete suspicion, high school administrations can request a drug control to be conducted within their premises.

The Luxembourg or Dikrech prosecutor then assesses the request, with the main criterion being a concrete suspicion. The prosecutors set the conditions for the intervention.
