The Grand Ducal Police were following a suspicious vehicle towards Tétange when the driver crashed into two police cars. The vehicle came to a standstill after a final collision, at which point two suspects exited the car and fled on foot. A police patrol caught up with them shortly afterwards at a petrol station.
During the car chase, one of the occupants threw a black bag out of the vehicle. Officers later retrieved the bag, which contained drugs. More drugs were discovered during a search of the vehicle, which were also confiscated by authorities. As a result of the car chase, a police officer sustained minor injuries.
By order of the public prosecutor’s office, the two men whose drug test came back positive were brought before the investigating judge, who decided to issue an arrest warrant.
Elsewhere, the Grand Ducal police arrested a shoplifter in Rumelange on Wednesday. After attempting to steal numerous bottles of alcohol from a shop, the man was intercepted as he left the establishment towards the car park, where his two accomplices were waiting. Although the stolen items were recovered, the two accomplices escaped.
In the early evening, another thief was caught after stealing a number of items from a shop in Merl. Here too, the suspected thief was apprehended and the stolen goods were seized. A drug test on the man came back positive, and a report was filed.
