Police conducted a large operation on Thursday, checking motorists' distraction at the wheel, as well as looking at their papers. 54 drivers received fines of €250 and lost four points from their licences for using their mobile phones while driving.

Four drivers were stopped for failing to wear a seatbelt, two cars were picked up for having suspensions affecting traffic noise, and one was speeding. Another was caught overtaking in a zone where it was not permitted, and six drivers had the wrong documents for their vehicles.

The checks were carried out between 7am and 10am on the A6 towards Luxembourg City, and on Route d'Arlon in Strassen. Police were also stationed at the A4 exit in Hollerich from 10.30am until midday.
