18 motorists have been fined for using their mobile phones while driving following a police checkpoint in Livange on Wednesday afternoon.
The operation, conducted between 3.30pm and 5pm on Rue Geespelt, specifically targeted the use of mobile phones behind the wheel. Authorities issued 18 fines, each carrying a €250 penalty and four points.
During the same checkpoint, three drivers were unable to present all required vehicle documents to officers.
Late on Wednesday evening, police responded to an accident on Rue de Schifflange in Kayl, where a driver had collided with several parked vehicles. The motorist sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital for evaluation.
Upon arrival, the individual was uncooperative with both hospital staff and police officers. A breathalyser test returned positive, leading to the immediate confiscation of their driving licence. Due to their intoxicated state and the danger they posed to themselves and others, the individual was placed in detention overnight following a medical examination.
In a separate incident during Wednesday night, a police patrol observed a vehicle speeding along Route de Luxembourg in Dippach. Officers stopped the driver shortly afterward and detected clear signs of alcohol consumption during the check. A breathalyser test confirmed the presence of alcohol, resulting in a temporary driving ban.
