Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden cast his vote in the European elections in Contern shortly after 10am on Sunday. Speaking to RTL later on, he emphasised that it is an important day, both for the Grand Duchy and for Europe. Frieden is hopeful that pro-European parties will win here and elsewhere to continue fostering positive developments in the areas of security and prosperity in the future.

Frieden continued by saying that dialogue is the only way to avert violent conflicts in Europe, a state of affairs he sees exemplified by the ongoing war in Ukraine. He also warned that the continent might fall behind China and the United States, arguing that progress in Europe is as important as unity.
