The Pirate Party confirmed on Wednesday that €23,800 was seized from its accounts in April as part of the European Public Prosecutor’s ongoing “MALT” investigation. Despite the seizure, the party maintained that it remains both politically and financially viable.
The case stems from a 2016 contract to develop a translation app for the National Reception Office (ONA) during the refugee crisis. Authorities are investigating whether all funds received were properly allocated to the project.
“Most current leaders weren’t active in the party at that time,” the statement noted, adding that the party has fully cooperated with judicial authorities. The leadership expects those involved to “take responsibility” for any financial damages.
Despite the seizure, the party emphasised its operational capacity and commitment to transparency. The Pirate Party clarified that individual defendants, including Sven Clement, retain separate legal representation, with Clement not speaking for the party in this particular matter.
