Close to 5,000 signaturesPetition on Adapto transportation service to be discussed in the Chamber

Petition 2749, which proposes to review the regulations associated with the Adapto transportation service for people with reduced mobility, has crossed the 4,500 signature threshold two weeks before the deadline and will therefore be discussed in the Chamber of Deputies.

The Adapto programme is a transportation service intended for people with irreversible mental or physical disabilities, as young as 12 years of age. The service offers rides to any place from their home and back, all free of charge.

According to the author of petition 2749, Adapto has been regularly misused since the last reform: “The ADAPTO service has deteriorated and is no longer suitable for people who are often dependent on this important service. ... It is important that a real reform is carried out in the interests of the people who depend on this service.”

One of the criticisms is that the programme is often used by elderly citizens, who are not the actual target group and who can rely on other services to move around.

After collecting close to 5,000 signatures, the petition will now be added to the existing stack of public petitions that have crossed the signature threshold and will be up for debate after the parliamentary elections in October.
