On the eve of Luxembourg's National Day, police responded to over 60 incidents across the country, including fights, disturbances, thefts, and burglaries, with several arrests and ongoing investigations.

As residents across Luxembourg gathered in festive spirits on the eve of National Day, not all celebrations went off without trouble. Police were called out around 60 times during the night for incidents ranging from fights and disturbances to thefts and burglaries, primarily in the capital, but also in Dudelange, Differdange, and Esch-sur-Azette.

Shortly after midnight, a brawl broke out in a Luxembourg City bar, leaving two people injured and in need of medical treatment.

In Dudelange, a heavily intoxicated man repeatedly disrupted a public procession despite being asked to leave. When he became aggressive, police were forced to intervene and restrain him.

In Esch, another drunk individual caused disturbances during the festivities and ended his night in police custody.

At around 5.20am, a confrontation occurred in Rives de Clausen between a large group of party-goers and private security staff. An initial police patrol attempted to defuse the situation but was unsuccessful; reinforcements eventually managed to restore order.

Multiple thefts and burglaries reported

Several thefts were also reported in Luxembourg City. Around 2am, two unidentified individuals assaulted a man, sprayed him with red paint, and stole his watch before fleeing the scene. Another similar incident occurred near Hamilius during the night, where a victim was beaten and reportedly sprayed with a substance before having their watch stolen.

Additional reports involved a stolen smartphone and wallet elsewhere in the capital.

In Cessange, police were alerted on Sunday evening to the theft of a wallet and vehicle registration documents. In Esch, a handbag containing valuables was stolen from a parked car overnight. In Bettange-sur-Mess, a suspect broke a car window to steal registration papers, then damaged a window at a nearby home, but was unable to gain entry.

At around 2am in Bonnevoie, police discovered an open van while two suspicious individuals fled the scene. Officers pursued and managed to apprehend one suspect. A formal complaint was filed, and after suffering several falls during the chase and complaining of pain, the man was taken to hospital.

The stolen items were later found nearby.

At approximately 12.40am, police responded to a break-in in Bonnevoie, where an intruder had forced open a patio door but fled upon encountering a resident. Initial reports indicated that nothing had been taken.

Earlier that day, around midday on Sunday, a house in Hamm was also burgled. Unknown perpetrators entered through the main door and stole several items along with cash.
