Firefighters from multiple communes battled a major blaze in Howald on Thursday night after a fire originating in one home's attic spread to a neighbouring house.

A fire broke out on Avenue Berchem in Howald on Thursday evening.

Multiple readers alerted RTL to the blaze, which sent large plumes of smoke into the air, with visible flames leaping between buildings.

Upon arrival, emergency services found a fire in a terraced house. The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) deployed multiple crews with two large ladders to contain the flames, which reportedly started in the attic of a single-family home around 8.15pm. The fire subsequently spread to the attic of the neighbouring house. Residents from both properties were safely evacuated.

In a bulletin issued Friday morning, the CGDIS reported that one person sustained injuries in the incident.

Shortly after 10pm, the approximately 40 firefighters on scene with seven to eight vehicles had extinguished the fire. As a precaution, parts of the roof truss and roofing were later cut away to prevent any potential re-ignition. Emergency personnel from Luxembourg City, Hesperange, Roeser, Junglinster, and Findel were involved in the response.
