ReportOn the road with police officers during the curfew

RTL Today
On the night of Halloween, a team from RTL accompanied police officers on their patrol to ensure compliance with the new sanitary regulations and curfew.

Over the course of the evening, 35 residents were fined for not complying with the new regulations.

The police mainly check whether people are respecting the curfew, but also whether Horesca establishments comply with the regulations pertaining to their industry, e.g. opening hours, the number of customers seated at each table, or the obligation to wear face masks.

In the case of one of these establishments, a report was sent to the National Health Directorate for breaches of the rules.

Increased number of checks, increased presence

Following the introduction of the new sanitary regulations and the curfew from 11 pm to 6 am, the police announced extensive checks in the capital and throughout the country.

Last week, Minister of Internal Security Henri Kox and Police Director General Philippe Schrantz provided details on how the police will proceed in regard to the new sanitary regulations and curfew.

The head of the Luxembourg police force, Philippe Schrantz, stated that for as long as the police could afford it, they would keep up the night services in police stations. Schrantz also announced that the police's traffic patrols would be more present during the night, and this throughout the country and especially on the weekends. He further explained that the police would combine their other regular checks, such as burglary checks, with the Covid-19 checks.

What does all of this look like in practice?

According to Schrantz, the police are resolute. He explained that after numerous campaigns and press conferences, the police assume that citizens should be aware of the current regulations. When officers notice an offence, they will issue a fine, or report the incident to the competent authorities, such as the judicial authorities or the National Health Directorate, who will then take a decision.

An offence will result in a fine of €145.
