Bonjour, Moien, Hallo: Guests were greeted in three languages on Thursday. Across Schengen, Perl, and Apach, where the spirit of Europe transcends borders in daily life—as envisioned by Schumann and Monnet—residents embody the principles others discuss, as evident from the reactions observed on Thursday.

The Europe Day festivities drew a significant crowd. It would be much more difficult to organise a meeting like this without the day-to-day interactions between municipal leaders.

However, the tri-border area’s municipalities will soon face a bigger challenge. On Thursday, 27 June, the Olympic torch is slated to arrive here en route to Paris. The torch relay will arrive in Apach around 1pm, proceeding to Perl and crossing the border bridge to Schengen, where an official ceremony will be held. A Luxembourg national will have the honour of carrying the torch, which will then continue its journey out of the Grand Duchy toward Scy-Chazelles near Metz, the former home of Robert Schumann.

Anticipated along the roads of the tri-border area are not only distinguished guests but also a multitude of spectators.
