Almost 300 applicationsOctober sees new peak in requests for asylum

Luxembourg has seen its highest monthly influx of international protection requests of 2023, with 294 individuals seeking asylum in October.

This represents the third-highest monthly total since January 2018.

The figures were released by the Immigration Directorate on Tuesday morning. The majority of demands came from people from Eritrea, Sudan, and Syria.

70 people were granted asylum in the Grand Duchy in October, putting the number of people to have received refugee status to 605 this year.

As for temporary protection sought by people fleeing Ukraine, 80 requests were received in October. This puts the total number of such requests to 850 this year. A little over 4,400 Ukrainians have now sought refuge in the Grand Duchy.
