Naturally, the pending holiday season represents an enormous challenges for care and nursing homes. They are currently working according to a 3-phase model, which was accepted by both the ministry of health and the ministry for family affairs.
Fischbach conveyed that most institutions are currently in phase 2, meaning that several people tested positive for Covid-19. Family visits can thus only be made by appointment and under special cautionary measures. The Copas official noted: "We understand that people want to be united over Christmas. But it remains of upmost priority to create a safe environment for everyone living in the institutions. That means that people returning from outside will have to quarantine for 7 days."
Most nursing and care homes therefore advise people to not leave the premisses over Christmas. Fischbach noted that the situation should become tolerable once the large-scale vaccination process has started. He conveyed that 10 institutions were set to start vaccinating people on day one.
It is currently estimated that the operation can be launched on 4 January.
