The Bauerenzentral (Farmers central) emerged as the leading group with 39.54%, resulting in six seats. Aktiv Baueren fir eng staark Landwirtschaft (Active farmers for a strong agriculture) came in second place with five seats, or 33.24%. Zesumme méi staark (Together stronger) which included candidates of the Bauerenallianz (Farmers’ Alliance) and Fräie Lëtzebuerger Bauereverband (Free Luxembourg Farmers’ Association) received 27.22%, resulting in four seats.
As a result, no list achieved an absolute majority. For the agricultural sector, there are 15 members in the Chamber of Agriculture, plus another 15 substitute members. Voter turnout was around 79% amongst 4,200 invited voters.
There were no elections in 2019 because only one list was present at the time. This year, there was only one list for gardeners and winemakers. Thus, the Luxembourger Gäertnerlescht (Luxembourg Gardening List) and Wünzerlescht (Winemakers’ list) will be represented by one and three members, respectively.
Current president of the agriculture chamber Guy Feyder received the most votes, but could neither confirm nor deny whether he wanted to take over that position again.
The plenary of the Chamber of Agriculture will meet on 29 March.
