MobilityNo tram for Nordstad municipalities: Bausch

Josh Oudendijk
Minister of Transport François Bausch opposes the idea of a tram for the Nordstad municipalities, made up of Bettendorf, Colmar-Berg, Diekirch, Erpeldange, Ettelbrück and Schieren.

This came as a response to a parliamentary question by André Bauler (DP).

The terrain of the municipalities would be too rural for a tram network to be established, Bausch explains. The major hubs are already connected to the capital by train, making an additional tram superfluous.

The National Mobility Plan for 2035, to be presented next year, will also include the Nordstad region, albeit without a tram. The response further states that the plan "does not aim to provide all regions of the country with a particular mode of transport, but to offer attractive connections to a maximum number of residents and cross-border workers."

There are roughly 25,000 inhabitants living in the Nordstad.
