The National Institute of Statistical and Economic Studies (Statec) released its latest report on Monday, which is based on data from the Ministry of Justice.

According to the report, a total of 1,206 bankruptcies were officially declared in 2020, 30 fewer than the year before. 2,050 people thus lost their jobs due to closures, compared to 2,180 in 2019. The biggest proportion of job losses occurred in the construction sector and in Horesca.

Even though this means that there were fewer bankruptcies in 2020, Statec also notes that more could still result following the fully-unfolded repercussions of the pandemic.
