850 dwellings are being built at the site, which is to become a home for up to 2,200 people. Both flats and single-family houses are being constructed. Some will be rented; others will be sold.
The site in Esch measures around 28 hectares. The first dwellings were finished in 2008/2009. Since then, several years have passed and the neighbourhood, called Wunnen am Park ("living in the park"), has evolved rapidly. So far, nine of the overall 15 buildings are finished.
The demand for housing, particularly in central and southern Luxembourg, is enormous. Similarly to other locations, diversity is a key element. Besides homes, the site will also feature a primary school, a swimming pool, a football pitch, and a special system to collect rainwater.
Of the 850 dwellings, 400 are funded by the Housing Fund, while the Municipality of Esch-sur-Alzette is financing the rest.
The site will be heated through a district heating system, specifically the same system that is already providing heat to the Raemerich and Belval sites.
