Though only being functional for little over a month the red light radar installed at Place de l’Étoile in Luxembourg has already recorded numerous traffic violations.
The camera has been in operation since 23 July, 2021 and flashes errant drivers who speed and run red lights.
In an answer to a parliamentary question from the deputy Chantal Gary (déi Gréng), the Minister of Mobility took stock after a month of the device being in service.
François Bausch reports that 582 cases of non-compliance with red light signals and 476 speeding tickets were recorded by the radar.
In other words, that amounts to 1,164 license points (with two per deducted per red light infringement).
One “positive” note taken from the camera data was that there was no case of ‘excessive’ speed recorded.
With over a thousand offences, the radar has therefore generated fines with a total value of €107,714 - or €145 for each red light crossing and €49 for each speeding offence.
For the 36 motorists who carried out both offences at the same time, the bill is added together and points deducted for the respective misdemeanour.
