After a pupil was hit by a car in front of the Wobrécken school on Boulevard Grande-Duchesse Charlotte in Esch-sur-Alzette on Tuesday morning, local authorities have reacted to this “regrettable incident”. The municipality of Esch “expresses its deepest concern and sends its most sincere wishes for the recovery of the pupil affected”. According to a statement, authorities will continue working on new safety measures, particularly in school zones, which are considered “a priority”.
With regard to the accident near the Wobrécken school, the municipality says that making the pedestrian crossing on the Boulevard Grande-Duchesse Charlotte safer is one of these measures. However, as the Boulevard is a national road, a request for work authorisation had to be submitted to the Bridges and Roads Authority.
Pending the start of the safety works, the municipality of Esch has taken temporary measures, such as installing provisional safety bollards and deploying staff to help schoolchildren cross the street. Additional measures relating to traffic in the vicinity of the school were adopted by the local council last Friday.
