Although it is clear that a draft reform of the real estate tax will be filed within the next twelve months, the exact rates have yet to be determined

However, in-depth analyses are being conducted at the moment to determine how significant the tax raise must be to bring about the desired outcome. Minister Taina Bofferding provided this information in her response to the parliamentary inquiry (FR).

The new tax will target properties that have remained unused for a considerable amount of time. Minister Bofferding described it as a “progressive tax”, which will mostly focus on residential areas.

Minister of Finance Pierre Gramegna underlined in several RTL interviews that the reform of the real estate tax will not affect people’s principle residences.
