'E-Community'New platform to facilitate trade of sustainable electricity

RTL Today
E-Community, a platform aimed at enabling the buying and selling of green electricity, was officially established by a consortium of companies, organisations, and citizen cooperatives on Friday.

At its core, E-Community offers individuals with solar systems the opportunity to share excess electricity they generate at fair prices.

For example, through this platform, a resident in southern Luxembourg, equipped with solar panels on their house, can readily share electricity with a family member residing in northern Luxembourg.

Similarly, within a neighbourhood, households can benefit from the energy produced by isolated photovoltaic installations, enhancing energy efficiency and community engagement.

Membership in the platform requires a €50 investment, granting participants a share in the cooperative, which serves as the platform’s legal structure. In addition, a nominal fee is levied for every kilowatt-hour of electricity exchanged through the platform.

Even older solar installations, which might no longer receive state financial support, can continue to produce and distribute renewable energy via the e-community platform.

Apart from solar power, E-Community aims to facilitate the exchange of electricity generated by windmills and biogas plants. According to those behind the platform, concrete projects are already in progress.

The platform is expected to become operational within a month.
