The Ministry for Culture on Tuesday unveiled a new non-profit organisation, called ‘Centre des Monuments du Grand-Duché du Luxembourg’ (Centre for Monuments of the Grand Duchy’), which is to manage the close to 80 fortresses, castles, and other historic monuments in Luxembourg in the future. The goal of the new organisation, which was officially founded in March this year, is to make management of these locations more professional and public access more attractive.
The monument centre, or CML, will first focus on three distinct sites: Beaufort Castle, Larochette Castle, and the ‘Gallo-Roman site’ in Dalheim. According to Beryl Bruck, president of the directors’ board of the CML, the three sites in question were previously run by volunteers and “spontaneously” decided to join the initiative.
The non-profit currently has a convention with the Culture Ministry worth €300,000 and is hoped to one day be turned into a public establishment.
