The Upper Sûre Lake is known as one of the most popular spots for Luxembourgers in summer, which brings about a number of inconveniences, especially in terms of traffic and parking. Minister for Spatial Planning Claude Turmes, Esch-sur-Sûre Mayor Marco Schank, and Nature Park President Charles Pauly therefore announced the introduction of new measures and the reinforcement of existing ones.
“These measures aim to improve visitor management, increase security, and protect nature,” highlights a respective statement.
Parking is to be improved with the introduction of a barrier system in the towns of Insenborn and Lultzhausen. Furthermore, the frequency of the lake shuttle bus on weekends and on public holidays will be increased. A total of 1,000 free parking spaces, from which the swimming spots can be reached by shuttle, are available. 700 paid parking spaces at €3 per hour are located closer to the beaches.
The website visit-stausei.lu is expected to soon provide a forecast of the region’s visitor rate for the coming weekend and offer a multitude of suggestions for alternative activities.
Generally speaking, accessibility to the lake has been improved, notably through the development of cycle paths, the press release further notes. Police presence will also be increased on busy days, hot days, and weekends.
As part of the protection of natural resources, the local fire brigade has purchased a new boat and material to combat forest fires so they can react quickly in the event of an emergency.
