Over the past few days, Luxembourg’s emergency number has received a high number of accidental phone calls, thought to be caused by a recent Android update, enabling a new SOS emergency function if the device’s power button is pressed five times or more.

CGDIS said it had noticed a 30% increase in false calls due to the update.

The problem has also been noted in many other countries. It is thought a new Android update will correct the issue.

As a result, CGDIS has called upon Android users to ensure they update their devices as soon as possible. The emergency function can also be switched off manually by heading to the device’s settings, selecting “Safety and Emergency” and turning off the “Emergency SOS” function.
