'Remember the medical centres!'National Health Directorate launches awareness campaign to ease pressure on A&E

RTL Today
The National Health Directorate has unveiled a new campaign, titled "Before going to A&E, remember the medical centres," urging patients to consider out-of-hours medical centres as an alternative to immediate A&E visits.

Designed to alleviate strain on hospital emergency departments, the campaign emphasises the swift and tailored responses provided by medical centres, ensuring appropriate care based on patients’ needs.

Out-of-hours medical centres, known as maisons médicales in Luxembourg, cater to individuals with less severe health issues — those not requiring urgent intervention. The primary goal is to relieve overcrowding in emergency departments, reserving them for critical and life-threatening cases. The National Health Directorate stresses that these medical centres are equipped with qualified health professionals specifically to address less serious cases.

Respecting these recommendations is expected to ease the burden on emergency services, allowing them to focus on genuinely urgent and severe cases.

The addresses of the four medical centres across Luxembourg

  • Luxembourg City Medical Centre: 23, Val Fleuri, L-1526 Luxembourg City
  • Belval Medical Centre: 3-5, avenue du Swing, L-4367 Belval/Esch-sur-Alzette
  • Ettelbruck Medical Centre: 110, avenue Lucien Salentiny, L-9080 Ettelbruck
  • Paediatric Medical Centre (CHL – Children’s Clinic): 4, rue Ernest Barblé, L-1210 Luxembourg City

To raise awareness, the campaign will be promoted on social networks, accompanied by the distribution of leaflets to GP practices and pharmacies.
