The citizens' initiative and the opposition's criticism is clear: the municipality of Dippach is wasting public money to purchase houses it doesn't need, at excessive prices. Additionally, these incomprehensible transactions by the council have contributed to the rise in property prices, says the opposition in relation to a house bought by the council on rue Tajel. The council claims the purchase price was justified.
The rue Tajel, situated between the school and the town hall in Schouweiler was chosen for an intergenerational living project. As the municipality did not own some of the necessary land, these were purchased this year. According to the citizens' initiative, the prices paid for these plots were significantly higher than those stated by the expert report the council ordered: "to this day, we have not seen any plans for the project, but we know the municipality paid €1,150,000 for two houses, which is 60% higher than the estimate."
According to the mayor, revealing too much information about the project would have pushed the prices up even further. But Manon Bei-Roller underlined the need for these lands and stated that they had consulted the current market prices within the municipality at the Liser, which was 6,000 Euros per square metre. An alderman added that the municipality had only paid half this price.
The opposition and citizens' initiative pointed out that the mayor is a direct neighbour of the project and noted a potential conflict of interest.
