Luxembourg’s 2020 climate act will be amended and updated to bring it in line with tighter European targets.
CO2 emissions certificates will be applied to transport and buildings, in addition to an equalisation mechanism which will be introduced at EU borders.
The climate act will also seek to improve sustainability for air travel, increasing emphasis on synthetic fuel in order to reduce carbon emissions.
The importance of the amendments to the climate act was emphasised on several occasions during Thursday’s session in parliament.
