Ministers Taina Bofferding and Henri Kox responded to a parliamentary question on the matter by adr MPs Fernand Kartheiser and Jeff Engelen.

Police in the area are frequently confronted with illegal groups of people that shelter in sheds or old buildings. They then attempt to climb into a truck travelling in the direction of the UK. These are a few individual cases, there would be no big "camps" as such, the ministers write.

Similarly, on Kirchberg, two sites are occasionally used as campsites for homeless individuals. Again, here, there is no evidence of large, long-term camps. The sites were cleared on 25 January.
