The revision of the Justice Chapter of the constitution was adopted by a large majority of MPs on Wednesday morning.

This was the second constitutional vote on this revision proposal, with 48 deputies voting in favour of the proposal, three voting against, and two abstaining.

MP Léon Gloden from the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV), the rapporteur of the chapter, declared that revision will strengthen the independence of the judiciary. According ti Gloden, the most important amendment is the creation of a new National Justice Council.

The Alternative Democratic Reform Party (adr) and the Pirate Party criticised that the revision does not go far enough. They believe that citizens should have access to the Constitutional Court, as is the case in other countries. In addition, the two opposition parties also expressed their disappointment over the fact that there will not be a referendum on the revised constitution.
