Government councilMP work trip expenses to be analysed following Fayot allegations

RTL Today
The allegations that minister Franz Fayot had charged extravagant meals abroad to expenses were a topic for discussion at Friday's government council session.

Earlier this week, Reporter. lu published a story claiming that the Minister of the Economy had on several occasions billed the ministry for extravagant meals worth hundreds of euros whilst on trips abroad. Although Fayot has since refuted the allegations, the government council has agreed to conduct analysis of expenses and practices for work trips, in order to eventually revise or clarify the permitted charges. In an official letter published after Friday’s session, the council says it wants to ensure optimal transparency. It did not specify when the analysis will take place.

The government has also agreed the procedures to simplify the third-party payer system within healthcare, following a meeting between the AMMD and representatives from E-Santé earlier this week.

Also on the agenda were sustainable energy sources, with the government agreeing it should be cheaper and easier to install private solar energy systems. The state will now waive the obligation to install a second meter for systems under 30 kilowatts.

The council also discussed the situation with the energy markets, as well as the housing and construction sectors - however, details on these were not released as of Friday afternoon.
