Kevin de Oliveira, aged 31, collected the most votes in the municipality, which has around 2,700 inhabitants. Yet he will not be taking over as mayor, as second-ranked and incumbent mayor Jean Wirion is set to continue in the role.
De Oliveira ended Sunday with 779 votes to Wirion’s 709; however, despite the result, said he did not want to become mayor. He was, however, disappointed not to have been included in the formation of the council, but said he had not been informed of the reasons behind the exclusion. Although he would accept the decision of the majority, he added that he hoped to work as a councillor and create a constructive opposition policy, while focusing on improving communication with Koerich residents.
Former alderman Yves Weyland will become first alderman (591 votes), followed by Mary-Jo Andrich (581 voted). With the exception of de Oliveira, all candidates standing in Koerich belonged to the citizens’ list “Är Leit”.
