The mono-wheel is considered to be an electric micro vehicle and can reach a maximum speed of 25 km/h. The model is now classified like a bicycle, which means it is allowed to drive on the road and on cycling lanes.
Mono-wheel enthusiast Fabien Bourgatte has been using the vehicle for three years and already completed more than 30,000 kilometres, including a trip form the Grand Duchy to Brussels. He welcomes the inclusion of mono-wheels into the road traffic act and believes that Luxembourg begins catching up to adaptations that have already been made by other countries. Minister for Mobility and Public Works François Bausch also underlined that the inclusion was long overdue.
Drivers can steer mono-wheels by shifting their body weight. One of the advantages of the vehicle is that it is relatively quiet and does not require much energy.
