Monique Hermes will take over the reigns of the town hall in Grevenmacher, succeeding Minister of Home Affairs Léon Gloden. Hermes will thus become the first woman in Grevenmacher’s history to hold the office of mayor.
The 73-year-old politician affiliated with the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV), who previously held the position of alderwoman, was nominated as the new mayor by the municipal council on Friday with six votes from the majority parties against five votes from the opposition parties.
As part of the transition, Liane Felten will step into the role of alderwoman, succeeding Monique Hermes. Additionally, Marc Ury, a 31-year-old economist at the Ministry of Education, will join the Grevenmacher municipal council as a new CSV councillor.
The formal swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected mayors is anticipated next week, with Minister of Home Affairs Léon Gloden presiding over the proceedings.
