Two-way bus lanes could be introduced in Luxembourg. They would be regulated according to the time of day and timetables.
In practice, this means that, depending on the time of day, buses would drive in one direction at one time of the day and in the opposite direction at another time on the same lane.
Such directional bus lines exist in other countries. They are sections where the authorised direction changes according to peak times and traffic.
The system could be set up on the bus lane between Gonderange and Waldhof, along route d'Echternach. In order to achieve this, the bus lane would of course have to be fitted with gantries equipped with dynamic displays and a road safety concept would have to be developed to avoid accidents when changing direction.
Other existing bus prioritisation projects are the bus corridor on the N2 in Remich, the section between Bascharage and Dippach and the N1 in Senningerberg.
These details were provided by Minister for Mobility François Bausch in response to a parliamentary question from MPs Carole Hartmann and Max Hahn from the Democratic Party (DP).
Other projects for priority bus lanes will be proposed in the National Mobility Plan for 2035, which will be presented at the end of the year.
