
Marcel Glesener, former president of the LCGB and long-time CSV deputy, has passed away. According to his family, he died on Sunday after a short illness, at the Kirchberg hospital. He was 87 years old.
Born in Esch on 17 April 1937, Marcel Glesener first worked as a locksmith at Arbed. He joined the Luxembourg Christian Trade Union Confederation in 1958, becoming its first secretary-general in 1974 and serving as LCGB president from 1980 to 1996.
Elected to the Chamber for the CSV in 1989, he remained in office until 2009. He was active not only at the national level but also in European affairs.
In recognition of his political commitment and steadfast advocacy of Christian values, Pope Benedict XVI knighted him.
