When officers arrived at the scene, they found a scooter rider had sustained injuries after a fall, but could not explain the circumstances due to memory loss.
The scooter, registered in France, was found lying in a field near the roadside. The man was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
It is thought the rider lost control of his scooter for unexplained reasons, when the vehicle came to an abrupt stop by a drain on the hard shoulder. He was thrown from the vehicle and suffered from amnesia.
