A police patrol came across the suspect on rue de Bonnevoie at around 8.35pm on Thursday, at which point he fled towards Avenue de la Liberté, where he was eventually detained.
The man had attempted to discard a series of objects from his person during his escape, which officers collected and identified as 11 packages containing cocaine.
A brief investigation revealed a nationwide search warrant for the suspect, who was awaiting deportation. The public prosecutor's office ordered the man's arrest. He was brought before an investigating judge on Friday.
