On Thursday, the culprit of the attack was acquitted of attempted manslaughter by the Luxembourg City court. The victim’s injuries were serious, but not potentially fatal.
The court had ordered an expert to assess the severity of the injuries and potential lingering effects. Only then could a final verdict be reached. The prosecutor’s office had requested 20 years in prison for attempted murder.
The defendant was not present at the trial, nor was he represented by a lawyer.
The victim and the culprit’s girlfriend were sitting down and smoking a joint when the fight started. The victim, a man, did not give her the joint but rather threw it in front of her feet. The culprit interpreted this as disrespectful, which prompted him to attack the man. He was also carrying a knife, whose handle he used to beat his victim on the head.
