Flu vaccine deliveries could be subject to delays, according to a number of pharmaceutical laboratories. Luxembourg depends on other European Union countries for flu vaccine deliveries, notably Belgium, and could be affected by the delay in receiving the World Health Organisation's recommendations on vaccine composition.
Minister of Health Etienne Schneider confirmed the delays in a response to a parliamentary question submitted by MP Mars di Bartolomeo (LSAP). He elaborated that the ministry was currently in contact with all vaccine manufacturers on the market to ensure Luxembourg receives its supply of flu vaccines in the autumn.
He specified that three laboratories had expressed interest in supplying vaccines, one of which had formally committed to providing half of the doses necessary to cover the population's needs (based on prior use statistics). Tow other manufacturers are currently in talks to determine prices and reimbursement conditions.
The Health Directorate has also been in contact with these authorised establishments to secure the continuous supply for Luxembourg. The directorate hopes to distribute vaccines to health professionals via Luxembourgish wholesalers.
