In a new publication, Eurostat compared the life expectancy of women and men, finding that women generally live four to five years longer than men.
A girl born in Luxembourg in 2020 has a life expectancy of 84 years and six months, compared to little under 80 years for a boy. However, the Grand Duchy does not have the longest life expectancy in Europe. If you want to live a very long life, better see to it that you are born in one of the continent’s southern regions.
The longest life expectancy for women, 87 years, has been observed in Corsica. For men, it is Ipeiros in Greece, the Balearic Islands, and the Umbria region in central Italy where they live up to 81 years and five months.
Eurostat confirms that “in general, newborn boys in Spain, Italy, and Sweden live longer.” For girls, the most favourable countries are Spain, France, and Italy.
