Four days: that's how long a 75-year-old Luxembourgish hiker spent in the Alps before being found by the rescue services. A vast search operation was launched as soon as he was reported missing after not returning from a hike in the Engadine region near Pontresina.
The search was unsuccessful until Monday. Rescuers finally found the man after spotting a backpack belonging to him.
According to the local police, the man had minor injuries and very weak when he was found. A rescue helicopter flew him to a hospital in Samedan.
