Dozens of primary schools have cancelled classes partially or entirely on Tuesday and Wednesday due to extreme temperatures, though the response varies significantly between institutions – with all secondary schools remaining open.

Multiple secondary school students contacted our colleagues from RTL.lu to express frustration, describing classroom conditions as “unbearable” and reporting symptoms including headaches, dizziness, and difficulty concentrating. Unverified accounts suggest some students may have fainted, though these reports remain unconfirmed.

When asked about implementing nationwide closures, Myriam Bamberg of the Education Ministry explained decisions remain localised because heat conditions differ substantially between school buildings. Municipalities oversee primary schools while secondary school administrations make individual determinations.

The Education Ministry will continue to monitor the situation with relevant authorities and has distributed Health Ministry heatwave guidelines to all schools.
