Spring 2025 was significantly warmer, drier, and sunnier than average at Luxembourg Airport in Findel, according to MeteoLux’ latest seasonal climate report.

The average temperature from March to May reached 10.6°C, which is 1.0°C above the 1991–2020 seasonal norm. All three months recorded higher-than-average temperatures, with March showing the largest deviation at +1.6°C.

The highest temperature of the season, 27.7°C, occurred on 31 May, while the lowest was -3.3°C on 18 March.

Rainfall totalled only 105.7 litre per square metre over the three months, nearly 41% below the seasonal average of 179.3 litre per square metre. March was especially dry, with just 12.4 litre per square metre of precipitation – 78% less than normal.

April was near average, but May again fell short by 41%. Only one day with thunderstorms was recorded, compared to the typical 5.5.

Sunshine hours soared to 774.9, about 38% above the long-term average of 560.9 hours. It was the third sunniest spring since records began in 1947. March alone broke historical records with 222.8 sunshine hours, surpassing the previous March record set in 2022.

The season was marked by persistent high-pressure systems, which suppressed rainfall and thunderstorm development. A notable exception was a severe thunderstorm on 31 May, continuing into 1 June, during which over 10,000 lightning strikes were detected across Luxembourg and nearby regions.

Meteolux observed only three fog days and no snow cover during the season – both below the long-term norms. The report confirms a continued trend of warmer and sunnier spring seasons in the region.
