The costs vary from year to year. In the school year of 2013/2014, for example, the cost per primary school pupil lay at $18,000, whereas this figure increased to $21,000 in the two years after, before dropping back to $18,000 for the last year of primary school.

In secondary schools, a student cost the state $23,000 in the year of 2017/2018, $3,000 more than a pupil in primary school.

The CSV MPs also inquired how the number of students and teachers had developed since 2013. For 2021, 52,000 children are registered in primary schools; 6,000 more than seven years ago. 39,000 students are registered in secondary schools, which is an increase of 2,000 students since 2013.

In terms of teachers and staff, 5,700 are employed in primary schools (+700) and 5,000 in secondary schools (+600).

Each year in spring, the education ministry projects how many teachers are required for the following year.
