Recently, aid was packed in a warehouse in Luxembourg and transported by plane to Sudan. Besides Luxembourg, three other EU countries are helping to set up the coordination camps, supported by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Sudan itself is experiencing an economic crisis due to Covid-19.

Due to the deplorable sanitary conditions, Unicef fears the outbreak of disease. Among the refugees are many children and pregnant women.

In early November, a military conflict broke out in Tigray between the Ethiopian government and the Tigray region. Thousands of people have been killed.
