As of Friday morning, water levels are gradually receding after reaching their maximum capacity overnight.
In Ettelbruck, the Alzette River surpassed its early warning threshold of 2.30 metres around 3am on Friday, peaking at 2.36 metres shortly thereafter. Current observations suggest that the influx of water has decreased.
Throughout Thursday night, numerous other waterways across the country also reached high levels before beginning to decline. For instance, the Kor stream in Pétange surged to over 2 metres, a stark contrast to its typical measurement of just over 40 centimetres. Similar conditions were observed along the Attert River in Reichlange.
Despite the subsiding water levels, the national weather service Météolux maintains a continued flood warning until at least Friday afternoon, particularly for the southern and central regions of Luxembourg. This caution stems from forecasts predicting additional short showers throughout Friday.
