General satisfaction with the economic situation

Residents in Luxembourg are generally satisfied with the country’s economic situation, as well as with their own financial and professional circumstances, according to the latest Eurobarometer survey published on Friday. For this edition, 504 people in Luxembourg were surveyed between 9 October and 5 November 2025. Some 88% of respondents said that their country’s economic situation was good. By comparison, only 38% shared this view across the EU as a whole.

In addition, 85% of those surveyed said they were satisfied with their household’s financial situation, while 81% were satisfied with their professional situation. The corresponding figures at EU level stand at 75% and 69%.

Looking ahead to the next twelve months, the majority of residents in Luxembourg expect both the country’s economic situation and their own financial and professional circumstances to remain stable.

Housing clear priority for residents

When asked about the biggest political challenges facing the EU, 26% of Luxembourg residents cited Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as the main challenge, matching the EU average. However, concern about immigration is higher than average in Luxembourg: 24% of respondents see it as the EU’s biggest challenge, compared with 20% across the EU.

When asked about the main challenges facing Luxembourg itself, housing takes the lead with a total of 56% of respondents saying that housing is the country’s biggest challenge. Across the 27 EU member states, only 13% shared this view. The dominance of housing issues is also reflected in responses to a question on how EU budget funds should be spent. In Luxembourg, 43% of respondents named housing as one of the four most important areas for EU spending, compared with 26% at EU level.

Comparatively high trust in EU institutions

Trust in the EU is also comparatively strong in Luxembourg. Some 53% of residents say they trust the EU, compared with 48% on average across the EU. In addition, 51% of respondents in Luxembourg have an entirely positive image of the EU, compared with 42% at EU level.

Trust in national institutions is even higher. Around 60% of respondents tend to trust parliament, while 71% tend to trust the government. The EU averages for these indicators are 34% and 33% respectively.

Broad support for Ukraine

This round of the Eurobarometer also asked participants about the EU’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In Luxembourg, the response was viewed somewhat more positively than across the EU as a whole. Some 90% of residents believe it is right for the EU to take in people fleeing war, while 83% support providing financial and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. At EU level, the corresponding figures are 81% and 77%.
