It is not the first time that special offers during winter sales have played a considerable role in reducing the national inflation rate at this time of the year. Neutralising sales-induced financial variations (and excluding petroleum products), prices for other goods and services increased by 0,5%.

In January, electricity tariffs were adjusted, causing an average increase in prices of 4,2% for consumers.

Food prices are also affected. Fish, seafood, meat, and vegetables all became slightly more expensive. All in all, food products witnessed an increase of 0,8% each month and a 2,6% increase since January 2018.

The annual inflation rate fell from 1,9% in December 2018 to 1,8% in January 2019.
