The National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC) reported Wednesday that consumer prices rose 0.6% in May compared to April, pushing the annual inflation rate from 1.7% to 2%.
The monthly increase was driven by notable price surges across several categories, with alcoholic beverages and tobacco increasing by 0.73%, hotels and restaurants by 0.95%, and healthcare by 1.09%. Only recreational activities bucked the trend with a modest 0.13% price decrease.

STATEC attributes the inflationary pressure primarily to the wage indexation that took effect on 1 May.
