Scam alertLuxembourg police warn of surge in call ID spoofing cases

RTL Today
The police are alerting residents to a sharp rise in call ID spoofing scams, where fraudsters impersonate local authorities to extort personal and banking information.

Luxembourg authorities have issued a public warning about a surge in call ID spoofing incidents, where scammers disguise their number to appear as local or official contacts.

In these scams, victims typically receive a call featuring an English-language recording falsely claiming an arrest warrant has been issued against them.

The fraudulent calls aim to extract sensitive personal information or coerce immediate bank transfers.

These calls do not reflect legitimate procedures used by any government agency, financial institution, or business, police emphasised. Criminals manipulate caller ID systems to display what appear to be authentic Luxembourg phone numbers or official agency contacts.

Authorities encourage anyone who has fallen victim to this type of scam to file a report with the police.
